Your rights as a client

Before we start, you’ll receive a written disclosure statement that covers my credentials, your rights, confidentiality and its limits, and how to file a complaint. You can read a copy here any time.

Ask me for a copy at (970) 452-9119.

Confidentiality and its limits

What you say in session stays between us. Colorado law protects it (C.R.S. 12-245-220), and I will not share anything you tell me, or anything I advise you, without your written consent.

There are limits, and you should know them before we start. I may share information without your consent when:

  • You make a serious threat of harm against yourself or another person, or your behavior creates one. I may then contact the person at risk, law enforcement, or others needed to keep people safe.
  • I have reason to suspect a child is being abused or neglected. Colorado requires me to report it.
  • I have reason to suspect an at-risk elder, or an at-risk adult with an intellectual or developmental disability, is being abused or exploited. Colorado requires me to report it.
  • A court orders me to release records or testify.
  • You file a complaint or lawsuit against me, or the licensing board reviews my work.
  • Another law requires it.

When I do have to share something, I share only what the situation requires. Where it is safe to, I will talk with you about it first.

Sessions happen over a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. Your privacy on your end matters too, so join from a place where you can speak freely.
